Lakeland: Pizzeria Valdiano

Pizzeria Valdiano exterior, Lakeland, FloridaMy wife and I headed to Lakeside Village in south Lakeland recently.  Their web site currently lists 14 restaurant options.  We chose Pizzeria Valdiano, in the southwest area of Lakeside Village, near the Cobb Lakeside 18 and IMAX Theatres.  Pizzeria Valdiano’s web site lists 2 other locations, one in Orlando and another in Winter Park, Florida.  In Lakeland, you can also get delivery via Take Out Hero.

I’m not sure how long Pizzeria Valdiano has been in operation in Lakeland, but the restaurant looked spotless.  It’s a little on the small side, but clean and comfortable.  There are a few tables outside, also.  My only real complaint with the whole experience – they were playing music too loud.  I’m a big fan of conversation over a meal, and the music volume made that difficult for us.

Pepperoni and sausage pizzaI didn’t spend time perusing the menu because I got distracted by the display case next to the register.  They had a pepperoni and sausage option with crumbly sausage that I especially like on pizza, so I ordered a 10″ version of that (16″ is also available).  My wife went for a 10″ Bandiera, with mozzarella, ricotta, pepperoni, and spinach.  We ordered fountain drinks, and even though I’m not a big fan of soft drinks, they had Cherry Coke, a flavor I love to have now and then.

Pizza BandieraThe pizzas were both top notch, with the crusts done just right and quality toppings.  The sausage on my pizza was perfect, slightly spicy without being too much.  Another thing that’s very important, they didn’t overload the sauce, it was just the right amount.  We were hungry and ate almost our entire pizzas, but the 10″ is a generous size and I can easily imagine having some leftover on most occasions.  These pizzas were right up there with Mellow Mushroom and Slyce Pizza Kitchen, two other Polk County pizza places we love.  With tip, our total came to just over $32.

So we definitely recommend Pizzeria Valdiano.  The loud music discouraged us, but the welcoming staff and delicious food would bring us back, maybe for takeout next time.  If you are shopping at Lakeside Village, or if you’re just looking for a delicious meal, check out Pizzeria Valdiano.
